When should my child have their first dental appointment?
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should have their first dental appointment by their first birthday. At this point, they have teeth, and it is a perfect time to introduce them to dentistry in a positive way.
First dental visits are often a “get acquainted” visit that allows children to get used to the sights and sounds of the dental office from a young age. We will examine their teeth and spend time discussing development, effective home care habits, and what to expect during your child’s development.
This initial dental visit gives us time to get to know you, the parent, so that we can work together toward creating a healthy, happy smile for a lifetime. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, and we can work together on any decision-making necessary.
As your child grows, we will add in additional preventive treatment options such as x-rays, fluoride, and protective dental sealants. We work at your child’s pace and understand that each child is different and requires their own individualized dentistry.
If your child is around one year of age, contact our Brooklyn, NY pediatric dental office to schedule. We look forward to meeting you and your child.
